How to Design a Standout Sublimated Jersey for Your Team
The 2025 Tour de France just wrapped up. Along with a demonstration of physical stamina and impressive athletic feats, the race showcases standout team jerseys. Here are some interesting facts about these iconic uniforms and how they are made:
Maillot Jaune (Yellow Jersey)
This vivid yellow shirt is awarded to the overall winner of the tour, determined by the lowest cumulative times throughout the duration of the race. This year, Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia secured the first place spot with a time of 76 hours, 32 seconds—his fourth win following his victories in the 2020, 2021, and 2024 races. A symbol of prestige, the Maillot Jaune signifies that its wearer has achieved excellence.
Maillot Vert (Green Jersey)
After completing the race with 372 points, Jonathan Milan of Italy claimed this victorious green jersey, which was created in 1953 and signifies speed. The Maillot Vert is awarded to the rider who leads the points classification each day.
Maillot à Pois Rouges (Polka Dot Jersey)
Awarded to the best climber, the Maillot à Pois Rouges is a symbol of perseverance and courage. The 2025 winner of the Polka Dot Jersey with 119 points was Tadej Pogačar, who impressively earned two titles this year.
Maillot Blanc (White Jersey)
This year’s race featured riders from the ages of 21 to 39 years old. The Maillot Blanc is awarded to the youngest racer, under 26, who has the leading time. The 2025 race has found itself filled with incredible young performers, with no single rider earning the jersey more than one time. Florian Lipowitz, age 25, has won the 2025 White Jersey with an impressive time of 76 hours, 11 minutes, 32 seconds.
How They are Made
You may be surprised to find out that the sublimation process for the Tour De France jerseys happens in a van! Fabrice Pierrot, who has made the yellow Jersey for the past 14 years, prints and transfers the winner’s sponsors onto the front and back of the jersey, making sure it’s ready for the leading rider to wear after each leg of the race.
Sublimated vs. Screen Printing
The Athletic Shop is your Maillot Jaune-winning provider of all of the best in athletic uniforms, spirit wear, equipment, and more. Whether your sport is football, baseball, basketball, softball, or volleyball, we are a one-stop shop for custom sublimated team gear and screen printing.
Sublimation uses a heat press that embeds a printed design into the fabric fibers, creating a long-lasting and vibrant look. The process works especially well for detailed images and allows us to create all-over print jerseys, where the design covers the entire shirt, front and back, using large, printed sheets.
On the other hand, screen printing involves the mesh stencil technique. It is a manual method in which each color is applied in layers one by one on top of the jersey. This creates cool, textured designs that work for a wide array of fabrics and is a cost-effective choice.
At The Athletic Shop, we offer both options depending on your preferences. This ensures our winning performance team uniforms are comfortable, customizable, and provide peak functionality. Contact us today for all your sports apparel needs!
