Chattanooga is the center of Tennessee high school soccer this week. The TSSAA Girls’ Soccer State Championships are underway across the city from October 27 through 30, with qualifying rounds at local schools and the championship matches at Finley Stadium.
The Schedule at a Glance
Only 32 teams were left when the final week began, and five state titles are up for grabs: three in Division I (Classes A, AA, and AAA) and two in Division II (Classes A and AA). Here’s how the week breaks down:
- Tuesday, Oct. 27: Division I quarterfinals
- Wednesday, Oct. 28: Division I and Division II semifinals
- Thursday, Oct. 29: Division II state championships at Finley Stadium (the Division II-AA final kicks off at 4 p.m.)
- Friday, Oct. 30: Division I state championships at Finley Stadium
The early rounds are being played at Baylor School, Boyd Buchanan School, and The Howard School, with each hosting different classifications. Tickets are sold by the day through GoFan, and prices differ by venue, so check the TSSAA’s girls’ soccer page for current pricing before you head out.
Chattanooga Teams to Watch
Four area teams earned spots in the state tournament: Baylor, Boyd Buchanan, Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences (CSAS), and Signal Mountain. Baylor, the Division II-AA entry, was set to face Harpeth Hall in a Wednesday semifinal at Boyd Buchanan, with a trip to Thursday’s championship at Finley Stadium on the line. Boyd Buchanan was scheduled to play Lausanne in the Division II-A semifinals the same day.
Teams from across the state made the trip as well, including Knoxville-area programs like Bearden and West in Class AAA, Anderson County in Class AA (its first state tournament appearance since 2004), and Webb School of Knoxville, back in Division II-AA for the third straight year.
Chattanooga Keeps Proving It’s a Soccer City
Hosting a state championship fits a pattern for this city. The organizers of this week’s tournament pointed to Chattanooga FC’s home pitch and the grounds that hosted Spain’s national team during the World Cup as part of what makes the city a destination for soccer. If you missed it, we covered how Spain trained at Baylor School on its way to the World Cup Final, and how Chattanooga FC opened its new headquarters on Riverfront Parkway.
Add a state championship week to that list, and it’s easy to see why soccer keeps growing in this part of Tennessee, from club teams and school programs to rec leagues just getting started.
Gearing Up Your Own Soccer Program
Watching state-level soccer tends to make younger players, parents, and coaches start thinking about what their own team looks like next season. The Athletic Shop builds custom soccer uniforms for school, club, and rec teams, with lightweight, moisture-wicking jerseys, breathable shorts, and socks that hold up through a full season. We can add player names and numbers, matching warm-ups and practice gear, and coaches’ apparel so the whole program looks consistent.
If your booster club or league is looking for a simpler way to handle orders, our online team store builder lets families order spirit wear and uniforms directly, with no cash or spreadsheets to manage. Fall is also a good time to plan ahead, since we recommend ordering 6 to 8 weeks before the season starts.
